    Has Nokia lost it?!!

One thing you learn over the years of running a business is to know your competitors as well as you know your own business. In this case, I think Nokia’s off their rocker. Their latest campaign is geared at the BlackBerry user, so let’s compare, shall we?

    Nokia E71 Ad

Now, in all fairness to Nokia, I am a Nokia E71 user – it’s a sexy, versatile phone. I monitor two Exchange accounts using Mail for Exchange and Roadsync. I use the VOIP client frequently, the podcasting application is a lifesaver, Widsets keep me up to date and I like viewing rich media with Skyfire.

… but to have Nokia purport that there are no hidden costs, I think they may have misunderstood the ultimate cost – people’s time. Some comparisons, after the jump.

The Black Art of Firmware Updates

You got it first… the latest Nokia E71-2 or the NAM E71 smartphone when it first hit the market. You love your phone, you live and die by it’s features. So when you hear that some people out there got a firmware update from Nokia but you didn’t, you feel like you got the shaft.

Fret no more, ‘lil camper. Here’s a guide on how to get the firmware update you always wanted.

The Nokia E71-2 Updated - FINALLY!

Background: I own both an E71-1 (European E71) and the E71-2 (North American E71). In October, I was notified that there was an update to the E71′s firmware. Some fixes, some enhancements, all good stuff (see the Nokia E71 blog, HERE for more details), so I embarked on updating my phones.

    Infamous Magazine – November 2008

This month was a light month for INFAMOUS. With a street date of November 17th, Kanye is on the cover again, looking prim and proper, like he’s ready for prep school.

This month, the magazine brings out some love for Van City’s own Martini who’s opened up Freshman, Voya in the Loden Hotel, and some quoteables from Mr. West himself. I recall only last year, one of the writers spent eight hours on hold waiting to speak with Donald Trump – for his perseverance, he the ultimate reward – a few minutes with the big man himself. Here’s to hoping there’s a comeback of that type of journalism soon.

As for my work? This month, I only contributed a couple photos – guess which ones on page 19, the ’30 days of style in Vancouver.’.

It strikes me that the credit crunch is affecting alot of publications as of late. 24hrs and Metro are ever thinner with layoffs on the horizon but INFAMOUS is still weighing in at a healthy 23 pages. Kudos to them for still being relevant to advertisers and putting out editorial that readers want.
