How do you prefer your Treacle Shaken or Stirred
The following email hit my inbox in January. The sender? My new friends at IKON Vodka – yet another brand to hit the market – this one’s labeled as a ‘True Russian Vodka.’
Treacle, btw – is defined by Wikipedia as ‘The residue from the second stage of crystallization of raw sugar, less bitter and viscous than molasses. An edible treacle is produced by filtering dilute molasses through cloth and charcoal.’
7:15 P.M. Saturday. You are at your favorite restaurant with friends waiting for your pre dinner cocktails. Your vodka martini arrives, dry with 2 olives. It is a popular well vodka. On the label it says premium and everyone, including you has to tighten their belt in this crazy upside down economy.
“Enjoy that martini,” says the waiter as he places it in front of you. But before you take a sip of the house special martini you should know that the vodka conglomerate that made this so called premium tipple used molasses as its core ingredient. That’s right you are sipping on liquefied treacle. Refreshing isn’t it. Wait a sec. Wikipedia defines molasses as a thick syrup by-product from the processing of the sugarcane or sugar beet into sugar. (In some parts of the U.S., “molasses” also refers to sorghum syrup.) Kinda makes you wish that you had ordered something else. But what? Perhaps a True Russian Vodka. At least, our ingredients in Ikon True Russian Vodka are consistent to the time tested tradtion of Russian Vodka production We always use high quality, choice rye grains, pure artesian water and close to 200 years of slavic distilling heritage. Our package may not be the prettiest. But our price is! Don’t get stuck in vodkas made with molasses that cut corner’s on quality. Pour Ikon True Russian Vodka because, “Your Mother was Right Its Whats Inside that Counts!”
