    VanCity Credit Union Sucks

I don’t usually use such strong words regarding anyone but in this case I’m really riled. Given the amount of travel I’ve been doing, I would like to hope that those professionals with whom I entrust my affairs with, act in such a manner. When I say professionals, I mean bankers, lawyers, doctors and accountants.

VanCity Wastes Copious Amounts of my Time

Before my trip to France, over a month ago, I initiated the opening of a bank account for SSID, my new venture. I dropped in to a local VanCity to open the account. The account manager (better stated mis-manager) started filling out forms and ran a credit check on me which at the time, I was okay with, feeling secure that the account would be open without issue.

    Sekoya and James Bond

What a fabulous weekend. I went out to see Sekoya Friday night at the Railway Club and on Saturday night I went out to the 11th Annual James Bond Martini Party at the Vancouver Club.

Friday night, I decided to follow the yellow brick road to the Railway Club. One of my favourite bands, Sekoya was scheduled to play. I got there a bit early, though, apparently, 9PM wasn’t their start time so I headed out to Kitanoya GUU in Gastown for a bite. My buddy Josh from The Office Journal joined me after putting his little ones to sleep. After my late dinner, we returned to the Club.

    Wine Tasting on Wednesday

Last Wednesday, we did a wine tasting with the Social Empire at Taylorwood Wines hosted by Kenji Hodgson & James Nevison, authors of the national bestseller Have A Glass, A Modern Guide to Wine.

I have so many great things to say about the event. Kudos to Frances in making such a nice event happen. The presenters were good, the five varieties of wines we enjoyed were also great and the attendees were top notch. The selection of appies were yummy as well. My personal photo album features the photos taken during the event so feel free to peruse.

    I’m back home

Things are always hectic. Coming back to Vancouver, getting work out of the way, more work, dealing with stuff that you put away that you must now address. It’s good to be back, but first, we drink. Or at least, that’s what Ken says (and has now been adopted by the rest of SIDC as the words we say before we say cheers)…. Here’s what happened on the last days during my trip to Japan.

    Finally… some personal time…

But first, today for lunch the boys took me out to ‘Moses’. Something described as the best food in the world.

    Moses

Of course on the way there, they had to let me know that the key ingredient in Moses was cockroaches. Great – I’m in for a great lunch. So Moses turned out to be donair and I tried two types – the Beef (regular) and the Chicken (double extra chili which was a bit spicy). The sauce was alright, the bread was quite thick and it wasn’t wrapped tightly as I had expected. Flavour didn’t compare to some of the great donairs I had in the South of France a couple weeks ago. I’m also looking forward to the Mughlai Kebabs in India when I go there a couple weeks from now.

During lunch, some beggar pigeon decided to hang around and harass me. I was somehow able to lay in a boot – something I thought would be impossible (after all, I try to run birds over with my car on a regular basis with limited success (1 hit in perhaps 1000 attempts)). Rats with wings, I tell ya.

    Welcome to Japan

First and formemost, damn you Vodaphone for making me think that you actually did something as progressive as implement a GSM network in Japan. That’s a misnomer. There is no GSM network here – sorry folks – I am totally and completely out of touch. If you really need me, Skype me :)

    … Continued

I had to jet off for a bit and didn’t get a chance to finish my last blog entry so here we go….

    Sometimes, my photography sucks

I love carrying around my cellphone. It’s the Sony Ericsson P800. I use the crap out of the camera feature. It seems to work out quite well and overall, it’s a great phone, especially when paired with Sony’s 1st generation Bluetooth devices such as the HBH-60 or the HBH-35. It doesn’t seem to work as well with the next generation of devices such as the HBH-65 which I recently put to rest for the HBH-600. Overall, the functionality rocks, tho – I’m going to keep my eyes open for a phone here in Japan which has Bluetooth.

    The Long Overdue Blog

Alot has transpired since my last blog entry. I’m now sitting here in Tokyo and should be here for a couple weeks but let’s back up for a moment.

Social Empire, Frances Completes 1 Year as Host

A fun party. Good turnout, the people at Mo’ Butta were great as usual, the food was good, the drink was great and the people that attended, awesome. I got a bunch of photos out of the event as well – the re-touched ones are available on the Social Empire site. The ones which actually came out of the camera are in my personal folders, here. There was a lot of red eye and some items which I had to remove from the finished pictures.

The fine people at Mo’ Butta went out of their way to not only offer a signature Martini Rasberry Twist, but they also provided everyone with the choice of a beer if the signature martini didn’t appeal. At one point, I considered opening up the third floor of the restaurant but the crowd kept pretty constant and there wasn’t a huge surge of people like what we had last year.

    Benny Benassi Coming to Town

Benny Benassi is coming to Vancouver tonight (October 6th). His video Satisfaction was ingeneous – you can check it out on his website. I’d love to see what he has in store for us during his visit – too bad I’m in Japan. A sneak peek at Satisfaction can also be checked out here (don’t forget to hit play).

I’ll continue this one in a bit – I have to buzz for right now… bbl
